Summer Tutoring Program
Reducing Learning Loss for Readers Who Need the Most Support
Reading Assist Summer Tutors provide one-on-one or two-on-one reading instruction to students entering grades Pre-K–4 who need additional support during the summer months. Tutors focus on teaching foundational reading skills – including phonological awareness and proficiency, and decoding – to support accelerated learning and reduce summer learning loss.
87% of students show growth after just one month of tutoring
Tutors work at school and community center summer programs, providing 30 minutes of daily instruction to each student. Reading Assist aims to mitigate learning loss, or show no decrease in reading skill scores, over the course of the summer. In previous summers, 87% students have shown growth in at least one of three measures.
