Summer Lead Tutor

Reading Assist is hiring Lead Tutors to support our Reading Assist Summer Tutors Program. This program supports struggling readers in summer programs across the state by providing 1:1 or 2:1 tutoring to students in grades Pre-K-4.  

In addition to providing 1:1 or 2:1 tutoring, Lead Tutors will also be responsible for supporting the operations of a summer program site. We anticipate summer sites at elementary schools across the state.  

Lead tutors will attend an online or in person orientation before the start of the program. Summer programs typically run Monday through Thursday mornings with no sessions on Fridays.  Summer program dates typically run for 4-5 weeks during the middle of June through the second week of August. 

Responsibilities 

  • Plan and deliver one-on-one or two-to-one reading lessons for struggling readers at assigned school 
  • Attend 1 to 5 days paid training depending on experience 
  • Track student attendance and performance data 
  • Deliver 4-5 weeks of tutoring, Monday-Thursday, in schools 
  • Deliver lessons in person 
  • Develop a positive relationship with children in grades 1-4 who may struggle academically 
  • Coordinate with the school in building student schedules for all tutors assigned to their school 
  • Administer beginning and end of summer Acadience assessments: Phoneme Segmentation Fluency (PSF) and Nonsense Word Fluency (NWF) 
  • Provide occasional instructional support for the tutors at your assigned school site 
  • Track tutor attendance through handing out and gathering of weekly sign-in/sign-out sheets 
  • Regularly communicate with Reading Assist staff to discuss any operational and/or instructional concerns 

Dates & Times 

  • Approximately 4-6 hours per day between 8:00am-2:00pm Monday-Thursday 
  • Approximate dates: 4-5 weeks during the middle of June through the second week of August. 

Experience 

  • Experience delivering DIBELS and/or Acadience assessments 
  • Experience delivering 1:1 reading intervention using a structure literacy program 
  • Previous experience as a Reading Assist Fellow or Reading Assist Summer Tutor strongly preferred
  • Experience managing summer, after-school, or other educational programs a plus
  • Experience in employee management a plus

Requirements 

  • Must have reliable transportation to/from host site 
  • Must submit to background checks and fingerprints 
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must have completed high school (some college preferred) 

 Compensation 

  • This is a short-term hourly position. The hourly rate range is $31-33 with an anticipated 16-28 hours per week
