Recruitment Manager

For over 35 years, Reading Assist has supported struggling readers through our accredited structured literacy program, rooted in the science of reading. We serve K–3 students across Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. who are in the lowest 25% for reading proficiency. We consistently help them achieve reading success.

Reading Assist’s strategic ambition is to become the leading regional expert and trusted provider of reading instruction for young, struggling readers. We intend to grow to serve 10,000 students, with 90% reaching the benchmark in foundational reading skills within one year.

The Recruitment Manager will support our strategic vision by promoting, recruiting, and hiring tutors and fellows, as well as managerial staff when needed, to meet our goals. This position will also be responsible for onboarding new fellows and management staff in partnership with the program and operations teams. The position reports to the organization’s managing director of operations.

Manager: Managing Director of Operations

Salary: $52,000-$65,000 annually

Responsibilities:

  • Manage applicant data
  • Drive recruitment events
  • Support recruiting-related marketing (e.g, social media posts)
  • Create Fellow interview schedules and coordinate with the program team
  • Conduct interviews
  • Issue offers and manage acceptances; coordinate with the Program Team to place Fellows
  • Work with managing directors and the CEO to determine when management/administrative positions are needed
  • Manage all aspects of management/administrative position hiring
  • Manage Applicant Tracking System (ATS)
  • Regularly evaluate recruitment plans and strategies and identify areas for improvement
  • Coordinate with the Operations and Program teams to stay up to date on programmatic changes and to ensure smooth transition of new hires from the recruitment phase to program support
  • Managing the proper onboarding of all new hires, including fellows, tutors, and management/administrative staff. Coordinate with program and operations teams as needed
  • Manage background check process and tracking for all hires
  • Assist with other Reading Assist operations as needed, including program support, training, fundraising, and administration
  • Identify and explore new pipelines for recruitment of diverse talent
  • Engage prospective applicants in strategically chosen venues, including events, online platforms, direct outreach, and partnerships with high schools, colleges, and universities, retiree groups, parent groups, and community organizations
  • Maintain familiarity with the requirements of all Reading Assist grants and contracts associated with both fellows and employees, including AmeriCorps grants

Occasional travel is required to attend events within the organization’s service area. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. This position is based in Wilmington, DE, and candidates are expected to work in the Wilmington office on a hybrid schedule.

Experience, Skills, and Competencies

  • Broad knowledge of human resources and recruiting best practices
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Marketing experience, mainly social media
  • Organizational skills
  • Experience with AmeriCorps and/or federal grant processes is a plus
