Reading Assist Institute provides free, volunteer tutoring in partner elementary schools throughout Delaware and in selected locations in Pennsylvania. This program targets struggling readers in grades 1-3. Volunteer tutors receive extensive training in RAI’s research-based reading intervention program and tutor children identified by school personnel as at risk for reading failure. Parental permission is required for a student’s participation.

Trained Reading Assist staff screen students' skills to determine the suitability of tutoring for each child. Students are pulled out of the classroom during the school day for one-on-one tutoring by a team of volunteers. The Volunteer Tutoring Program is provided at no charge to the school district, school, parents or volunteer.
